Why we show you our freight maths

The landed price hides two things

When an exporter quotes one number per stem delivered, the flower price and the freight are folded together. You cannot tell whether you are paying a fair price for the flowers, a fair price for the flight, or covering someone’s margin twice.

Freight is not ours to mark up

The airline charges by the kilo. Stems have weights. There is nothing proprietary in that arithmetic, so we publish it — and you can check any quotation you receive, from us or from anyone else, against it.

A buyer who understands the cost orders better

Once you can see that a 70 cm rose carries half again the freight of a 40 cm one, you build your box differently. That is a better shipment for you and a straighter conversation for us.

What it costs to ship one stem

Air freight is billed by the kilogram, so the only things that decide what a stem costs to fly are what it weighs and how many fit in a box. A 50 cm rose runs about 55 g; a 70 cm rose about 72 g and only 200 fit in a box instead of 350. Those two facts together are why a longer stem costs meaningfully more to move, and why gypsophila flies cheaply while hydrangea does not.

A note on box weightA finished box always weighs a little more than the stems inside it. The carton itself, the sleeves, rubber bands, wrap and corner protectors all add weight — so for every box, allow some extra on top of the stem total. Airlines charge for the box exactly as it is handed over, not for the flowers alone.

How much does it cost to import flowers from Kenya?

Three things stack up: the flowers themselves, the air freight, and the cost of clearing them at your end. This page gives you the middle one exactly, on your own rate. Flower prices come by official quotation — tell us what you want and we issue one, usually within about twenty minutes. Duty and clearing depend on your country, and our team will walk you through what yours charges.

Is there a minimum order to start importing?

No minimum on a trial shipment — any size you like, so you can see the quality before committing. Recurring orders start from 20,000 stems. We accept orders from registered companies; if you are importing as an individual, apply first and we will guide you through it.

How is flower air freight calculated?

Airlines charge per kilogram of chargeable weight. Take the stem weight in grams, multiply by the number of stems, divide by 1,000 for kilograms, add roughly 1.2 kg of packaging per box, and multiply by the rate per kilo. That is exactly what this page does for each line.

How much does a rose stem weigh?

A 50 cm premium rose runs around 55 g and a 60 cm rose around 62 g — so 1,000 stems of 50 cm roses come to roughly 55 kg before packaging. Gypsophila is much lighter at 25–44 g depending on bunch size; hydrangea is much heavier at 160–190 g a head.

How many stems fit in a box?

Roughly 400 stems at 40 cm, 350 at 50 cm, 250 at 60 cm and 200 at 70 cm. Longer stems mean fewer per box and more freight per stem — which is why a 70 cm rose costs more to fly than its length alone suggests.

Does this include duty and clearing?

No. This is the air freight only. Duty, VAT, handling and clearing at your destination are separate and differ by country. Our team can walk you through what your market charges — it is part of the guidance we give first-time importers.

Why do the lengths change the price so much?

Two reasons compound. A longer stem weighs more, and fewer of them fit in a box, so the box tare is spread across fewer stems. Between a 40 cm and a 70 cm rose the freight per stem can climb by half again.

What rate should I use?
